Pacers: A History of Watauga's Dance Team
The Pacers are Watauga High School's varsity dance team. The team performs at home football and basketball games and practices everyday throughout these sports seasons. This year, the team performed over eighteen different dances, and performed at some special events as well, including the Homecoming Pep Rally, and the WHS Cheer showcase.
"Pacers is always something I look forward to at the end of each school day, and being the captain of the team. I love seeing the work and talent immerse from the girls, while also having fun at the same time," said Skylar Moss, senior. "Game days are always my favorite days because it is spent with the whole team, and bonding and laughing at the most random things."
Skylar Moss is a senior, four-year member, and the captain of the 2022-2023 pacers. Other leadership roles include the sophomore officer, Carly Watson, and the junior officer, Caroline Fox. Throughout the season, these leaders choreograph, and teach dances, as well as help to guide the team to unity while on the sidelines, and performing.
Laura Carson is the Instructional Technology Facilitator and has been the coach of the Pacers since 2010.
"My daughter Katelyn made the team her freshman year [2008]. Going into her junior year, the coach stepped down. Katelyn and Alana Patterson asked if I would help them get registered for camp and begin the year in 2010. I told them I'd be glad to get them started and here I still am., said Carson.
Since 1989, the Pacers have danced to uphold a legacy that current and future Pacers strive to uphold. Some past Pacers have shared their experiences and memories from their time as a Pacer.
