Elk Knob State Park is located in meat camp, NC. The main attraction is the infamous summit trail. At 1.9 miles to the top it is moderately strenuous but worth if for the views!

Grandfather Mountain State Park is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the area. People visit from all over to see the mile high Swinging Bridge, the animal enclosures, and hike the miles of trails they offer. With bears, mountain lions, bald eagles, fudge shops, museums, educational films, and much more, it is well worth the visit! Locals, be sure to check it out for just $5 during the month of April.
Grayson Highlands Park Entrance
Just an hour and a half away from Boone, Grayson Highlands State Park is in Southern Virginia. The park features miles of beautiful trails ranging from easy to strenuous, dozens of waterfalls, several campgrounds and picnic areas, access for backpackers, and perhaps what they're most famous for: wild ponies. Grayson Highlands may be in a pretty remote location, but they have something for everybody.

Mount Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi. With an elevation of 6,684 feet, this attraction in Yancey County attracts tourists from all over. With over 40 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to strenuous, camp sites, educational facilities, and many other amenities, this is a destination you cannot miss.
