During the last two months our school was most lucky to be a part of the Galilea Fellowship Program. It is a dynamic volunteering program that allows our pupils to get exposed to volunteering native speakers who simply serve as conversational resources to practice English live in dialogues. The program was meant for high-school Israeli students completing 4-5 points in English as means for improving their oral abilities, and preparing them for the Oral Bagrut Exam. However, we were most lucky to be the first elementary school to take part in it. One of our main objectives was to provide helpful exposure to native speakers for our pupils in order to improve their speaking skills and to allow them to practice English throughout exciting and engaging activities.
There have been two volunteering fellows at our school. The first was an amazing young man called Phil Morrow. Phil is a Christian youth and worship minister from Houston, Texas. He recently graduated with his masters in Biblical Languages, specializing in Hebrew. He likes to write music, study languages, explore nature, and make delicious hummus. The second was Juliana Pelo, a wonderful 23-year-old Christian from Marshfield, Wisconsin. She recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services and pre-counseling. She likes photography, swimming, listening to audio books, and spending quality time with her family. The two fellows have made this experience most exciting, valuable, and unforgettable for both pupils and teachers. They have succeeded in gaining the pupils' attention , and increasing their interest and engagement to the language. We, at Alwasifieh School, are so grateful for the wonderful times they have spent with Alwasifieh Family. It was an honor to be a part of this amazing program. We see this as a highly successful experience that contributes to our pupils' betterment. We appreciate the work and effort that every and each person involved has made, and we look forward to next year.
Sincerely
Rania Saba
