Assignment: Review and practice proper overhand throwing technique. Review and catching techniques.
Location: Outside, or prepared indoor location that is prepared to handle flying objects!
Materials:
-Soft 3"-5" plush ball, or other available ball or object that is appropriate to throw. If outside, consider a plastic ball.
-bucket or basket, hula hoop, several balls, empty bottle or soda can, a friend
-Music: Pick your students favorite 2 songs to play while practicing. When the music ends, it is time to clean up
-Video Access if possible: I will provide a demonstration video to help the children practice the movement. **Warning: In class, I am the target they throw at. If I am on the video, they may assume I am the target. Please establish a safe target for them, with the electronic equipment in a protected situation.
How to Begin:
Press the button link "Under-hand Throw guide/prompts" at the bottom of the page
Press the button link "How to Catch Guide/Prompts" at the bottom of this page
1. Demonstrate how to throw: Establish a target. Saying the prompt out loud as you do each movement.
2. Demonstrate how to catch: Saying the prompts out loud "Eyes ready, Feet ready, Hands ready, EYES READY!"
***Some students may require you to help them establish basic muscle memory and help them while being a "puppeteer". Aide stands behind student, holds their wrists/hands and guides them through the full body motion, helping them move through the proper movement patterns. (Interesting how it is like a dance:)
Fun Games to Play while practicing:
bowling
Play catch, softball
bocce ball, lawn darts
bean bag toss, corn hole
