Course Description: This performance based course assists students to find meaning in works of theater art through the study and appreciation of theater as an art form. This is accomplished through standards of plot and character analysis, basic acting techniques, and critical thinking skills. Preparation for job interviews and resume making.

Technical Theatre I or Stagecraft will introduce students to the basics of stagecraft and theatrical production. Students will explore a variety of unique skills and careers in the theater and film industry including set design and construction, lighting design and operation, sound design and operation, stage management, prop fabrication, costuming, hair styling, stage and special effects makeup, house management, box office sales, and public relations. Students will apply these skills by preparing and executing Dixie High School’s assemblies and productions, including the talent show, the fall Musical, spring play, choir and instrumental concerts, and dance shows.
Film I will comprise of viewing essential films contributing to the development of film as an art form and film making. Topics of discussion will cover a wide range of film genres, basic film terminology or “cinematic language”, and educational themes. Film material will be carefully selected from a wide range of films nominated or recognized for excellence by the American Film Institute (AFI) and The Academy of Arts and Sciences (Academy Awards) and there notable film guilds, unions, societies and festivals.

Personal Narrative
An Instructional Video
Documentary.
Course Description: This course is a deep dive into the unique art form of musical theatre. Students will explore the history, craft, and performance of musicals through the integrated study of acting, singing, and dancing. The curriculum will focus on developing "triple threat" skills while also understanding the historical, cultural, and societal context of the works. The semester will culminate in a performance project showcasing the skills and knowledge gained.
Course Description: Film & Media Arts will comprise of viewing essential films contributing to the development of film as an art form. Topics of discussion will cover a wide range of film genres, basic film terminology or “cinematic language”, and educational themes. Film material will be carefully selected from a wide range of films nominated or recognized for excellence by the American Film Institute (AFI) and The Academy of Arts and Sciences (Academy Awards) Film Festivals (Sundance, Cannes, etc.). Class activities will include viewing, discussing and analyzing film, and group filmmaking projects.

There are two basic goals in theatre education: finding meaning in works of theatre art through the study and appreciation of theatre as an art form, and constructing meaning in works of theatre art through the study and skill development of theatre techniques in the creation of that theatre art. To these concepts this course adds depth as well as breadth through the study of production unity, character conflict, character motivation through movement and voice, projecting mood and feelings, trust, the design concepts of visualization and technology, researching a script, variety in art forms, assessing performance effectiveness, and famous theatre professionals. The prerequisite for this course is Foundations I or II (1800 or 1810).
