Third grade

Room 10

2021-2022

Fall 2021

Hello Room 10 Families,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my school website. I've provided some information below to help you get to know me. I look forward to getting to know your family, and I am especially excited to spend time with your third grade child. We will accomplish a lot of learning, personal growth, and we'll have fun, too!

I love teaching and the potential educators have to positively impact children, and I'm thrilled to be in my 6th year as a third grade teacher at Toro Park School! The positive, productive, and collaborative learning environment and local community make Toro a fantastic place to work.

Every learning stage and grade have unique aspects, but I have a special fondness for third grade. I am attracted to the growth potential of children at this age, their excitement for learning, genuine character, and I love the third grade learning standards. What a great age to be a kid!

Background:

I was born in Santa Cruz in 1987. My parents raised my three younger sisters and me in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. Most of my childhood days were spent playing outside, and my interest in being outdoors has never diminished.

A passion for running was cultivated by my cross country and track coach in high school. I had a great experience attending undergrad at UC Irvine, where I was able to continue competing as a XC and track athlete (until I stopped due to recurring injuries). I was also able to study abroad in Siena, Italy and work several jobs. I graduated from UCI in 2009 with a BA in Psychology and Social Behavior and a minor in Education. I followed that up with several years of teaching English part time while living in Europe with my husband, Tim, from 2009-2015. In 2016, I furthered my education by earning a multiple subject teaching credential and Master of Arts at UC Santa Cruz in 2016. Then, Tim and I moved to the Monterey Peninsula and I began teaching at Toro. We are so grateful to live in this beautiful part of California.

I spend my time outside of teaching doing a lot different activities. Some of my favorites are heading out for adventures with Tim and our dog Arlo, reading, gardening, long thru hike backpacking trips in the Sierra, taking care of my chickens, fishing, cooking, and baking.

Sincerely,

Kelli Hutten
