CREATIVE DIGITAL ARTS RUBRIC: Motion Graphics (Individual Event)
What is it?
A Motion Graphic is a looping, animated image that uses motion to help share an idea, feeling or message. Often, Motion Graphics are also referred to as GIFs (although any file format is welcome in this category).
In this event, students will use digital tools to design and animate an original motion graphic. The final product should creatively combine motion with visual elements such as symbols, graphics, text, color, contrast, and typography. Students may also include video or hand-drawn/digitally created artwork.
The focus is on original student work—all elements should be created by the student or used with direct permission. Strong entries will show thoughtful design, smooth motion, and purposeful use of digital tools to communicate a clear message.
This event celebrates both creativity and craftsmanship in digital design.
Use your own ideas and artwork. Don’t copy from the internet or use someone else’s work unless you have permission.
Write about how you made your entry. Tell what tools you used and the steps you followed from start to finish. Use this template if you’d like

The motion graphic is creative and original—it shows student’s own ideas in a way that feels new or different from others.
Student carefully picked colors, fonts, and layout. Things like where images or words are placed, how things match, and how it all looks together were clearly planned. The colors and pictures help show the feeling or message the student wanted to share.
GIF is clear and easy to see. It doesn’t look blurry, and the motion works smoothly. Everything in the design fits together and looks like it belongs.
The motion graphic grabs attention! It keeps people interested and makes them want to keep watching. Tools or effects were used in a fun and thoughtful way.
The student completely explained how they made the entry from start to finish, including what tools were used. If students used anything they didn’t make themselves, permission to use that media is included.
