Perhaps your child has some questions about starting kindergarten. Here are a few thoughts from our teachers that parents and guardians can share with them:
What is school?
School is a fun place to learn and grow. Our students come to school and listen to stories, read books, play with their friends and explore their classrooms.
What can you do to get ready for kindergarten?
You can continue to read books, play games, play safely outside and talk to your family and friends to prepare you for kindergarten. Be sure to get your rest and eat your vegetables, your brain is growing now!
What is fun about school?
EVERYTHING! Once you get here, you are going to love meeting new friends, talking with your teacher and learning about new things. Also, you will have recess!
What will I learn in kindergarten?
At the start of kindergarten you will practice writing your name with a capital letter at the beginning and all the rest lowercase. You will learn to recognize and write letters and learn the sounds they make. You will practice counting, writing numbers and recognizing shapes. You can start working on these things at home with fun stuff like play dough, shaving cream, sidewalk chalk, pencils, crayons, and markers! You can also use books, flash cards and educational apps like ABCya, Starfall, Teach Monster, Phonics Island, Native Number and Epic.
