Students interested in being a Student Council Classroom Representative should thoroughly review each section on this website.
Parental Permission must be given in order to run for class representative.
Students running for representative must write and share a speech with their homeroom (3-minute time limit). When planning your speech, please respond to the prompt: “Why do you want to become a member of the KHE Student Council and how will you help to make Kissel Hill a better place?” Please refer to the speech rubric when planning your campaign speech. This rubric was designed to provide guidance for students. Students will NOT be receiving a grade/score for their speech.
Students will be permitted to work on their essay/speech during recess if they desire to do so.
Voting will occur on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5th.
Each student will have the opportunity to vote for two classmates. The two candidates with the most votes will be named class representatives. In the event of a tie for the second most votes, both students will become representatives.
We will be electing two 6th-grade students to the positions of Student Council President and Student Council Vice President. 6th graders who win their classroom elections (two per class) will have the opportunity to campaign for Student Council President.
The presidential election will occur after the general election.
Elected 6th-grade class representatives will have the opportunity to share their campaign speeches with all students in grades 3 through 6 during their presidential campaign.
All students in grades 3 through 6 will then vote for Student Council President.
Students will cast their votes using a Google Form ballot, and the results will be electronically tallied. All votes will remain confidential. The results of the election will be shared over the announcements by November 8th. This will give students who are absent on Election Day the opportunity to vote.
Students who know they will be absent on Election Day may vote ahead of time by letting their homeroom teacher know.
