Bee Keeper's Update from Dr. Balsbaugh

Dear Families,

As we approach the winter break and the close of another calendar year, I want to take a moment to wish you and your loved ones a safe, restful, and warm holiday season. December is a time for reflection, gratitude, and connection, and I am continually reminded of how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring and supportive school community.

The greatest gift we share is our partnership. When families, students, and staff work together with trust and a shared purpose, our school becomes more than a building—it becomes a place where children feel known, supported, and inspired to grow. Your involvement, encouragement, and collaboration make a meaningful difference each and every day.

As we look ahead to the new year, this season offers a wonderful opportunity to pause and set intentions together. We encourage families to take time to talk with your child about goals—both big and small—that you can work toward collaboratively at home and at school. Whether it’s building a new habit, strengthening a skill, or nurturing well-being, growing together helps children see learning as a shared journey.

Thank you for being an essential part of our school family. May your holidays be filled with warmth, joy, and time with those who matter most. We look forward to continuing our work together in the new year.

Nurse's news

A Note from the School Nurse: Flu & Cold Season

As we move into the flu and cold season, I want to take a moment to thank families for helping keep our school healthy. Young children are especially good at sharing germs, so working together makes a big difference!

Colds and flu often begin with symptoms such as runny or stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, fatigue, fever or vomiting/diarrhea. While mild cold symptoms can sometimes be managed at school, there are times when children should stay home to rest and recover.

Please keep your child home from school if they have:

A fever of 100°F or higher (children should be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school)
Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
A persistent cough that interferes with learning or breathing
Unusual fatigue, body aches or signs they are not well enough to participate in school
Any illness requiring frequent care or comfort that cannot be managed at school

If your child has cold symptoms but is fever-free, able to participate in class, and does not require frequent nursing care, they may be well enough to attend school.

To help prevent the spread of illness, please remind your child to wash their hands often, cover coughs and sneezes and avoid touching their face. Keeping children home when they are sick helps protect classmates, teachers, and staff — and helps your child recover more quickly.

If you ever have questions about whether your child should stay home, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the health office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community healthy!

WSD District Talent Show

The Warwick School District Talent Show will be Saturday, January 31, 2026. If your student is interested in performing at the show please click here to complete the registration form. We are looking forward to seeing all the wonderful acts from across our district.

Forms are due by Monday, January 5, 2026.

Feeding School Kids Initiative

From January 1 through March 31, everyone who shops at GIANT, MARTIN’S, and GIANT

Heirloom Market stores will be invited to “round up” their bill to the closest dollar. The round up

funds raised will support Feeding School Kids. Customers can also give by converting their

CHOICE Rewards Points to donations in the GIANT app.

Great Things are Happening Under the Bonfield Big Top

Our hallways are looking festive. Thanks to the family and friends who helped transform Bonfield this holiday season.

Congrats to so many of our Bonfield Bees for their participation in our first ever districtwide Maker's Market. Amazing creativity and talent were shared with our community.

'Tis the season for festiveness. We have enjoyed strolling carols from our instrumental students.

Cafeteria Volunteers

We are always grateful for extra hands to support in the cafeteria, especially at the beginning of the year, as students learn routines. Our volunteers who have assisted have loved the opportunity. We'd love any district-approved volunteers who are interested in assisting at the start (or throughout) the year, to sign up here to come in and volunteer over lunch.

Power Packs

Visit https://app.pantrysoft.com/login/powerpacksproject to sign up to receive weekly Power Pack food resources at school weekly. Power Packs Project provides weekend food and nutritional information to students and their families to have on the weekends when school breakfast and lunch programs are not available.
