Bee Keeper's Update from Dr. Balsbaugh

Dear Bonfield Families,

Step right up and get ready… because the curtain is rising, the lights are twinkling, and the greatest school year is about to begin! 🎉

Just like the magic of The Greatest Showman, our school is a place where everyone belongs, talents shine, and dreams take center stage. This year’s theme, "The Greatest School Year," will guide our celebrations, activities, and classroom adventures as we work together to create an unforgettable year for our students with a carnival cenetered theme.

Here’s what’s coming up:

Our cast of teachers and staff can’t wait to welcome our stars back for a year of curiosity, growth, and joyful learning.

🎡 Back to School Night: [9/11 6-8pm]
Come see the “big top” (your child’s classroom!), learn how you can support your learner, and get a preview of learning for the year.

This year, we’ll be encouraging every student to:

Try new acts (take learning risks)
Cheer on their fellow performers (support classmates)
Celebrate the magic of hard work and creativity

Families, you are an essential part of this production—your encouragement, communication, and partnership make the magic happen every day. Together, we’ll make sure every child feels like the star they truly are.

So grab your tickets (and your school supplies), because the show is about to begin—and trust me, this is the greatest school year! While most all supplies are provided at school for you, we do ask for each student in all grades to have a pair of headphones for the school year for use while using devices in the classroom. Wired (as opposed to bluetooth) are preferred, and can be simple ear buds from a dollar store or a pair that is more preferred to your student. If assistance is needed, please feel free to reach out.

Cafeteria Volunteers

We are always grateful for extra hands to support in the cafeteria, especially at the beginning of the year, as students learn routines. Our volunteers who have assisted have loved the opportunity. We'd love any district-approved volunteers who are interested in assisting at the start (or throughout) the year, to sign up here to come in and volunteer over lunch.

Back to school routine tips

To smoothly transition into a school routine, start by gradually adjusting bedtimes and wake-up times a few weeks before school starts, aiming for consistency with morning and evening routines, and fostering a positive attitude about school.

1. Early Bedtime Adjustments:

Begin shifting bedtime and wake-up times earlier by 15-30 minutes each day, several weeks before school starts. This gradual approach helps bodies adjust to the new sleep schedule and avoids the shock of an abrupt change.
Consistent sleep schedules are crucial for success in school.

2. Morning Routine Essentials:

Establish a clear morning routine with steps like waking up, getting dressed, eating breakfast, and packing belongings.
Create a visual schedule with pictures or icons for younger children to help them understand the sequence of events.
Prepare for the morning routine the night before by laying out clothes, packing bags, and preparing breakfast items.

3. Evening Routine for Success:

Create a consistent evening routine that includes homework time, dinner, and wind-down activities like reading or relaxing.
Limit screen time before bed to promote better sleep.
Consider a relaxing bath, brushing teeth, and putting on pajamas as part of the evening routine.

4. Positive Attitude and Engagement:

Show enthusiasm and a positive attitude about the school year, as children often mirror their parents' feelings.
Engage with your child about their school day, asking specific and engaging questions to show you care.

Warwick Event Expectations

We have worked together to implement our Event Expectations for all school-sponsored events last school year. We wanted to provide a reminder about these expectations before events kick off for this school year. School events are an exciting time for our community to come together to celebrate and support their teams, musicians, and other student groups. Maintaining safety and supervision at our events is a priority; in partnership with families, it allows all of our fans and guests access to these events. Our students are a precious asset and education about respect and appropriate behavior is a vital component in helping to aid in their development and feeling of belonging. As a result, all elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by and supervised by an adult at all times at all WSD events. The detailed expectations can be found here. Please read through them thoroughly. We look forward to partnering with you and our students through these expectations. We appreciate your continued support in providing a safe and respectful environment for all members of our school community.
