Reading Levels and Classroom Instruction:
Prior to summer school, students are tested at their home school and a reading level is determined. These students are then grouped in their classroom with individualized instruction so that each student feels challenged and is able to have personalized instruction.
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, WCS has and will continue to take the necessary steps to keep your children safe. At summer school we will:
Reduce and limit large gatherings of students;
Clean, disinfect and sanitize the school and the rooms on a daily basis;
Practice hand washing procedures and health protocols;
Adjust our instructional set-up and delivery;
Work cooperatively with the Local Health Department to maintain safety standards for students and staff.
Activity Time:
On a daily basis, students will have a 35 minute physical activity time. This is a structured physical activity time coordinated by our Physical Education teachers where students engage in structured games and activities. Since this is a daily activity we ask that you make sure your child wears appropriate shoes to protect their feet. (This is so very important!)
Rotations:
Students will rotate from class to class for exciting, intense and varied instruction in Reading Strategies, Word Work, Guided Reading, and Computer Based Reading Learning and Software. This is “THE” place to be for the summer. Your children are in good hands and we are so thankful for your support.
School Nurse:
We have a full time nurse on staff here at summer school. If your child has any health related issues please make sure to contact the office immediately. If there is an incident involving your child, our nurse will make the appropriate contact with you.
Backpacks (Toys and Stuffed Animals):
Students will have everything they need provided for them at summer school. Backpacks are not necessary. We also appreciate your students keeping their toys and stuffed animals at home.
Field Trips:
There are no Field Trips during summer school. All activities are held here on the Lakeview Middle School Campus.
Arrival and Dismissal:
Bus Arrival and Dismissal: Students will be dropped off and picked up in the back of the building, near the tennis courts. Please avoid this area during all arrival and dismissal times.
Parent Drop-off: When dropping off your child, please do so in the front of the school. Please do not drop students off before 7:45 AM. We do not have supervision for those students arriving prior to 7:45 AM.
Parent Pick-up: This also occurs in the front of the school. When picking up your child from summer school, please stay in your car and follow the directions of the Parent Pick-up staff. Pick up is no later than 12:30 pm.
Breakfast:
Breakfast is offered and served to “ALL” summer school students. We will accommodate any late arrivals up to 8:45 A.M.
Lunch:
Lunch will be offered in three shifts each day beginning at approximately 10:45 AM. We feel very fortunate to have this program available for our summer school students.
Discipline:
In order for summer school to be successful for your child our classrooms must be free from inappropriate behavior. Our goal will be to contact you by phone when the first discipline office referral occurs regarding your child. A second office referral will result in removal from summer school. Discipline issues will be handled by Dan Graney (Facilitator). Please feel free to contact us at the school if you have any questions.
Absences and Transportation:
Please be sure to call the office at 574-269-7211 to report any absences, late arrivals, early pick-ups, or changes in student transportation. This is especially important for those students who have a temporary change in their transportation to or from summer school.
Birthday Parties and Celebrations:
As per Warsaw Community Schools policy there can be no balloons, flowers or special deliveries to summer school students. Parents may provide a prepackaged snack for that day. We thank you in advance for honoring this policy.
