Math
WCS follows a 60-minute math block. I structure my block as follows:
I begin my block at the carpet where I do my daily skill instruction. I begin with a Number Talk, then I introduce and invite discussion on the weekly skill. This is about a 20 minute process.
I differentiate students into four leveled math groups, based on data from quarterly standards-based assessments. Those groups follow four, ten minute center rotations that include:
- M- Math with Mrs. J, small group guided math instruction
- A- At my desk problem solving independent work with occasional teacher guidance
- T- Technology practicing skills through various resources/cites
- H- Hands On math skills-based manipulatives
These pillars follow a similar outline to the Daily 3 model. The rotation block is about 40 minutes.
