The College will make reasonable accommodations for persons with documented disabilities. Any student eligible for and needing academic accommodations because of a disability should meet with Deborah Braden, Director of Academic Engagement and Disability Access, to prepare an accommodation plan. Please try to meet as early in the semester as possible as accommodations are not retroactive.

Class attendance is vital to student academic engagement and success. In general, students are expected to attend every scheduled meeting of a class, including labs and other required meetings or field trips. Any student who will be absent from a class must communicate with the instructor prior to the missed class (or, in unusual cases, within 24 hours of having missed the class). Students are responsible for knowing and completing what course material they missed during an absence. In most instances, instructors have the prerogative to set attendance policies for their individual classes and to determine when absences are "excused" or "unexcused" and under what circumstances tardiness counts as an absence. Even when absences are necessary and excused, there may be a threshold at which the student has not been present enough to earn course credit. Typically, "excused" absences include:
serious illness
family or household emergency
unsafe travel conditions for off-campus students
religious observance
officially representing the College at an off-campus event
Students are encouraged to discuss course content (both readings and assignments) with their classmates. However, all written work and creative assignments must be completed individually and represent the individual student's thoughts and ideas unless prior permission has been granted by the instructor. By enrolling in this class, you are subject to the Warren Wilson College Honor Code. I have a zero-tolerance policy for cheating and plagiarism. Please see this resource if you are unsure of what constitutes plagiarism.
The College's complete policy on academic honesty, adopted by the faculty, is on pages 60-61 of the 2024-25 Catalog. We take integrity seriously at Warren Wilson. In this course, if you cheat on a quiz or exam, or present another's ideas or writing as your own in any assignment, you will fail that quiz, test, or assignment. If the cheating or plagiarism occurs in a major assignment for the class, you risk an automatic "F" for the class. If you permit another to use your work as if it were their own, you will share culpability. Finally, in accordance with College policy, all violations of academic honesty are reported to the Office of Academic Affairs.
It is unusual for a student to cheat or plagiarize from malintent. Falling behind or being overwhelmed are common causes. If you are slipping behind in class, please talk to me. It happens. We will work on it together.
WWC is a community that respects the dignity of its members. The College is committed to maintaining a positive learning and working environment where diversity is honored and individuals are treated with respect. Due to Title IX requirements, all faculty members are required to report ANY knowledge of sexual harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, or hate crimes related to sex, sexual orientation, and/or gender. The Title IX Coordinator is Tacci Smith, tsmith@warren-wilson.edu or 828-771-3769.
You can also use the online biased-incident report (this form is used for a variety of complaints, including Title IX).
If a student does not wish to have a report made, but wants to talk with someone about an incident that occurred involving sexual and/or relationship violence, you can contact the following confidential resources:
Shannon Spencer, College Chaplain: sspencer@warren-wilson.edu or 828-771-3747
Pat Parker, Nurse (Health Center)
Lindsey Honkomp, Athletic Training, DeVries
Asheville's Our Voice 24 Hour sexual assault crisis line: 828-255-7576
Remember that if a faculty or staff member knows of a possible Title IX incident and also directs the student to a confidential resource, the Title IX coordinator still needs to be informed. Please also know that informing the Title IX coordinator does not necessitate any particular action. Please visit the WWC Title IX website if you would like more details.
