Yesterday, Community Three Learners had the privilege of visiting the Warkworth Theatre Group at the Warkworth Town Hall as part of their inquiry, ‘What does it mean to be a performing artist?’ As the Theatre Group are currently presenting ‘Allo Allo’ to our community, we were able to view their Green Room full of props and costumes, the stage-set, back-stage pathways, as well as the sound and lighting desk with special sound effects. We also discovered many ways in which the Town Hall has been used, in the past and present, as a place to bring our Warkworth community together. Being a non-profit organisation, the Theatre Group provided this learning experience to us out of the kindness of their hearts, motivated by their passion for the performing arts. We were able to leave them with a koha, however, which they will put toward their fundraising efforts for new production lights. Special thanks must go to Rosie Hutchinson, Dianne Morgan (Theatre Group), and Alex Hayward (Town Hall Coordinator) for hosting such a rich and rewarding experience to Community Three as we prepare for our own production! Thanks also goes to all our parents who attended as this enabled us to enjoy the walk to the Town Hall and a play in the park afterward!
Big thanks to Sophie who came in on Tuesday to judge our EMR action projects. Our learners were given the opportunity to complete an action project related to what they have learnt throughout the EMR programme. This action project need to help raise awareness of marine threats or help promote marine protection. The action need to go outside the classroom and reach the wider community in some capacity. Our learners did an amazing job at creating their own action project. Here are some of the completed designs.
Big thanks to David Edge, our local Auckland Council ranger, who came into Community Three last week to share his expertise and experiences with our students! He brought in a whole range of hands-on resources including traps, animals, photos and a cool camera for looking inside burrows. The students really appreciated this learning experience.
