This guide contains useful information about what to expect on your expedition.
How you pack your bag can significantly influence how enjoyable your expedition walk will be! You need to think carefully where you place items so that they are handy for when you need them. You also need to pack things in a way that will maximise the space you have available.
Remember you will need to leave some space in your pack- as you will be given parts of the tent/cooking equipment to carry as a team as well.
Watch Ms Brooker's video with advice on how to pack your bag ahead of your expedition.
**Note*** At Bronze level the requirement for a pocket knife should be ignored. Students will not be able to purchase a pocket knife/tool as they are underage. This is not needed for the Bronze expedition.
With regards to mobile phone access on the expeditions, the students are given one phone per group by the DofE leaders that they can use for emergencies. They can carry their own mobiles but these are to be taped up in a zip lock bag and only used for emergencies where the group phone has failed. In this way, it is highly unlikely that students will need to access their own phones on the expedition. In the evening, students will be able to use their phone for an hour to let parents know that they have arrived at the campsite and to take some pictures. The phones will be collected again after this hour so that the students can focus on socializing and getting a good night's sleep. Their phones will be distributed in the same fashion the next day with the expectation that they do not access them unless in an emergency where the group phone has failed, which is highly unlikely.
