On Tuesday, May 20th the seventh graders attended a field trip to the catskill Hatchery in Livingston Manor. The busses firts met up with the Department of Environmental Conservation in Rosco and helped the stocking truck release approximately 500 brown trout in the Willowemoc Creek. We also released the 50 or so fingerlings we have been raising in our classroom tank.
From there, students were treated to a tour of the Hatchery by Michelle Poprawski, a fish culturist at the hatchery. Michelle led instruction on how the hatchery operates, the various life stages of the trout as well as the importance of protecting our local environment and waters. It was a fascinating experience. After our tour, students proceeded to Mongaup pond campgrounds for some fishing and a nature walk.
