Thanks to a generous grant from the A. Lindsay & Olive B. O’Connor Foundation , the Walton Middle School has begun a "Trout in the Classroom" project at George F. Mack Middle School in Walton, NY.
Trout in the Classroom is an organization that began a as an effort to connect kids with their local watersheds. Trout need near perfect water quality and temperature in order to survive in the wild. The purpose of TIC at Walton CSD is to educate our kids about the importance of protecting our local waters. A springtime release in the WDelaware Riveris being planned. In the next couple of weeks we will receive eggs from the Catskill Hatchery. Fertilized eggs will begin to hatch into Alevin and continue to feed from their egg sack. The next stage is Frye as they begin to develop their features. Next comes the Parr-Juvenile stage where the baby trout begin to get their colorization and markings, and finally into their Adult stage of development
