FAQs
What is the difference between production theatre and technical theatre?
Theatre Production is focused on the actual performance aspect of a production. These students typically love to perform whether it's acting in a production, reading a monologue, or performing in a musical number. While this class does offer opportunities for all of those things, theatre production will also teach students how to write plays. There is never a dull moment with this enthusiastic group of students. For production classes we offer, Theater Production 1,2,3, and 4.
Tech theatre is the part of theatre that pertains strictly to the technical side of a production. Tech members help with costumes, lights, sounds, and props. They are behind the scenes helping the production go smoothly. We offer Tech Theater 1 and an Advanced Tech for the students interested in this area of the theatre department.
What is one act play?
UIL One Act play (OAP) is a competition in which high schools in our state perform a play in under 40 minutes. Companies can advance from the first round of competition all the way to State, earning individual and technical awards along the way.
What are thespian points and how do I earn them?
Thespian points are points that you can earn to be inducted into the International Thespian Society. The International Thespian Society (ITS), founded in 1929, is an honorary organization for high school and middle school theatre students located at more than 4,900 affiliated secondary schools across America and abroad. The mission of ITS is to honor student achievement in the theatre arts. It takes 10 points to get inducted and once you are inducted, you are a thespian for life!
Ways to earn thespian points include, being involved in our productions, going to see productions from other schools/theatres, being involved with theatre related activities outside of school, and so much more! At the end of every year, we fill out a form with all the activities that we have done that can earn us points, so it's best to keep a list or spreadsheet going to keep track of all the points you've earned during the year!

How do I become more involved in the theatre department?
Normally, any student could be involved in our large Fall Production where we normally perform a musical. Due to Covid-19, we unfortunately will not have that option this year. Instead, we will be performing virtually. This year, there will be a numerous amount of opportunities to become involved by performing in these virtual productions. We will have independently-produced Senior Projects (See the "Senior Projects" sub tab under "Season"), productions you can audition for, and volunteer opportunities!
As a freshman, you can apply for the Freshman Representative position to be on the Executive Committee after the first 6 weeks of instruction. At the end of the year, any student enrolled intending to enroll in an Advanced Technical Theatre or Theatre Production class can apply to be a Theatre Officer for the following year!
