What is a School Social Worker?

School Social Workers are employed by Walker County Schools to support the mission of success for all students.School Social Workers bring unique professional knowledge, skills, and perspective to the school system.School Social Workers value basic human rights and the worth of individuals, including the right to self-identify problems, needs, and goals.School Social Workers actively intervene to address barriers that affect the student's ability to learn.School Social Workers assist students, families, and schools to identify needs and facilitate positive change.

Reasons to see the School Social Worker

Attendance - Are you having difficulty getting to school on time or missing school all together? We want you to maximize your potential, let's figure out a plan for success!

Home to School to Community - Some families have difficulty getting school supplies, food for meals, clothing, medical attention, and/or help with utility bills. There are resources available that we may be able to access to help you and your family.

Social/Emotional - Let us help you when you are feeling overwhelmed. We are here to help you through the tough times as well as to celebrate the good times with you. Something weighing on your mind? Spill a drink on your shirt and need a clean one? Not sure how to deal with a friend? Conflict at home? A death in the family or of a pet? We will help you to develop coping skills that you can use to handle life stressors. We can also provide referrals to community resources if needed.
