September 28 - 50 Years of Wakulla High School

Dear WCHS Members and Friends,   Our program on 50 Years of Wakulla High School has been rescheduled to Thursday, Sept. 28. 

The Wakulla County Historical Society program on Thursday, September 28 will feature 50 years of Wakulla High School.  The program will begin at 7:00 PM in the Wakulla County Public Library.   

In 1967, three community high schools, Sopchoppy, Crawfordville and Shadeville, were consolidated into one county high school.  Wakulla County High School opened its doors for the first time on August 28, 1967 with an enrollment of 564 students in grades 7 through 12.  History and memories will be shared by Bill Payne, Harold Thurmond, David Miller, David Harvey, Coach J. D. Jones, Judy and Bob Myhre, and Bobby Pearce.  We will have the yearbooks there as well as articles and a slideshow of pictures.   

Come and join us as former students, teachers, coaches, principals and superintendents remember the early days of the school on up to the present.  If you have school memorabilia you would like to show, please feel free to bring what you have.  It promises to be a fun evening of reminiscing and learning more about our county’s high school.   

Each year the Historical Society offers a collectible, limited edition Christmas ornament featuring the history of Wakulla County.  Our 2017 ornament is of Wakulla County High School in 1967.  We will have these ornaments for sale at the meeting for $8 or you can purchase them at the Museum, 24 High Drive in Crawfordville.
