The Wakulla County Historical Society presents a unique event to celebrate our nation's 250th birthday! "Threads through Time: a historic clothing fashion show and tea" will be held on Saturday, September 12 from 2-5 pm at the Crawfordville Women's Club. In colorful pageantry, Florida's history will be illustrated by models in period dress while narrators explain the powerful forces and events that influenced even clothing design.
Do you have a piece of historic clothing you can enter in the show? All models are complimentary guests at the event. Tickets for the tea are $25.00 and will be sold beginning July 1.
The Wakulla County Historical Society was founded in October 1991 to collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret the heritage of Wakulla County and the surrounding area. We are located at the Wakulla County Museum and Archives in Crawfordville, Florida. The members are actively involved in the restoration of the old jail building that was built in 1949. It is one of the few remaining art deco jail buildings that have not been architecturally modified. The museum houses the genealogy library, exhibit rooms, research areas and a gift shop. Volunteers are available at the museum to assist you with historical and genealogical research.
Our members are involved in many community projects including:
Historical programs for the public
Maintaining and documentation of historical cemeteries
Heritage Village Project
Genealogy classes and research assistance
Maintaining our extensive library for genealogy research
Collecting and preserving artifacts
Creating museum exhibits
Restoration of the Old Jail building that contains the museum and archives
