Students can take part in the Gateway programme, with the opportunity to gain unit standards, whilst gaining valuable skills in the workplace. The purpose of Gateway is to provide students with opportunities to develop knowledge and skills required for future employment.

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) funds Gateway. This programme is designed to enable students to undertake workplace learning one day per week. Students taking part in Gateway will be required to participate in school and keep up with their school study requirements. This is a great opportunity for Year 12 and 13 students to gain experience and to obtain on average up to 20 NCEA level 2 or 3 credits.

Students need to apply for this course, and selection will occur after an interview with a member of the Careers Department team. Due to the Gateway class having capped class numbers (linked with TEC funding) unfortunately a number of students may not be successful with their application, so they need to have considered another subject choice should they be unsuccessful.
