WAIMA Lessons

WAIMA is an integrated approach, although a main behaviour expectation is listed, the 5 components of WAIMA are interrelated.

WAIMA lessons set out what positive behaviour expectations are taught, throughout the school each year. Each behavioural expectation forms a programmed unit of study that runs for 1 week.

Within the 1 week, there is a specific weekly WAIMA focus that concentrates on a target behaviour that is taught school wide. This is determined by need and is introduced Monday afternoon and is integrated into the teaching programme in each classroom with age appropriate learning activities.

Staff repeatedly reinforce the positive behaviour expectation through pre-correction, re-teaching and integrating the values of WAIMA as part of everyday practice.

Although the lessons focus on specific behaviours at specific times, the five components of WAIMA are interrelated, not exclusive.
