The Key Competencies are recognised in the New Zealand Curriculum as being the skills, attitudes and values we all need to lead productive and fulfilling lives. These are the five key competencies that Waiheke High School integrate into all teaching and learning programmes.
THINKING
Students are encouraged to be curious and ask relevant questions as well as;
~ Make links and connections
~ Solve problems
~ Reflect on progress and trying to improve the quality of his/her work
~ Being prepared to suggest new ideas or solutions to problems
RELATING TO OTHERS
Students show respect to others by
~ Listening actively
~ Contributing positively
~ Speaking politely to others
USING LANGUAGE, SYMBOLS AND TEXT
The student communicates effectively and appropriately, which involves:
~ Using clear language
~ Learning and understanding the specific words of the subject and useing them appropriately
~ being able to understand and interpret texts, graphs, symbols and the visual language of his subjects
MANAGING SELF

~ Organising themselves by having all items of equipment that they need for learning
~ Completing all his class and homework
~ Attending every lesson and is on time
~ Wearing their uniform correctly and with pride

The student participates fully in class and school activities, which involves:
