Kapa haka refers to a wide range of Māori performing arts combining stance, posture, movement and expression to form a single performance. Kapa haka is a powerful medium of self-pride and identity for Waiheke High School students, and as such has gained a popular following from students for many years.
Kapa haka uses the following components:
Kapa haka groups vary in size: from several students to a large group of people. Age or size is no barrier to participation with some groups where pre-schoolers through to kaumātua actively participate in kapa haka both competitively and for entertainment purposes.
Waiheke High School offers one after school practice on Wednesdays 3.30pm to 4.30pm with weekend wananga (workshop) held through out the year.
