Students are back on campus! 🎒🏫 Wai'anae Elementary School will be OPEN to all students tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

We apologize for the late notice, but we were just informed that no students will be reporting to school tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Staff will be working to prepare for students' return. We look forward to seeing you all back on campus. Stay safe, Seahorse!

Following assessments of school campuses and surrounding community conditions, the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (HIDOE) will keep public schools and offices closed statewide on Monday, Aug. 17.

The additional closure will allow time to complete campus safety assessments, restore utilities where necessary and address storm-related impacts.

The Department will continue working with county and state partners and will provide updates regarding Tuesday's operations as additional information becomes available.

Kindergarten Registration

An informational poster titled "Off and Away! Wai'anae Elementary School. Elementary: Off and Away During the School Day." The poster is divided into two main sections. The first section, "Cell Phone Reminders!", states: "Students will be turning off their phones and putting them away in their backpacks before and during the school day! Reminder! Please keep your phones turned off." It features an illustration of a phone powered down inside a backpack, alongside the guidelines: "Recess equals Play Time! Lunch equals Chat Time! Focus equals Learning Time!" The second section, "Contacting Families", answers two questions. For "How can I contact my family?", it instructs: "Ask your teacher for a pass and then go to the front office to contact your family." For "How can my family contact me?", it states: "Your family can contact you by calling the front office or messaging your teacher on their communication app."

Wai'anae Elementary School Community Council meeting dates and times. All meetings are held virtually on Thursdays at 5:00 PM. The dates are: September 17, 2026; October 15, 2026; November 12, 2026; December 10, 2026; January 7, 2027; February 4, 2027; March 4, 2027; April 1, 2027; and May 27, 2027. "Mahalo to Mrs. Asano for allowing me to visit her classroom and see the tremendous work her 5th grade students did on their Inca projects. I loved listening to all of her students share stories about the Inca empire. I admired looking at all of the intricate details in each of their dioramas. Great job 5th graders! So proud of you.
