Principals Message

Welcome to Waiʻanae Elementary School (WES), home of the seahorses! Here at WES, our vision is for your child(ren) to be a lifelong learner with the skills to solve problems and contribute positively to society.

To develop the whole child, our strategy is a community-school approach.  Here at WES, we work to be the epicenter of the community to support our students, families, and the community to thrive - through education.

As parents and guardians, we are our child’s first and most important teacher.  Through our community schools approach, we aim to collaborate, support, and partner with you to support your child’s educational journey.  Thus, we hope to create self-actualization and, inevitably, community-actualization for all.

Our school is WASC accredited.  Focusing on standards-based instruction, our schoolwide curriculum aims to provide standards-based instruction and vertical alignment kindergarten through 6th grade.  Additionally, our school provides specialty classes to foster exploration and inquiry.

Understanding that all students are unique, we strive to provide daily small-group instruction combined with academic and socio-emotional screening - our goal is to meet each student where they are and to build them towards success.

We believe through these actions, our students will be afforded access, hope, and opportunities to “keep on SWIMming!”

Self-Respect - To develop respect for others, you must respect yourself.

Worth it - Know that you are worth it.  Our students and community are worth it.

Involved - Be involved in your academics, family, and community.

Mindset for Success - You can do it!  It may take time, but everything is possible.

We welcome you to visit our school as we continue to improve to be an integral part of the community.  If you want to visit our campus or speak with me, please contact our main office at (808)305-2900.

Respectfully,

Sheldon Konno, M.Ed
