About Lake View

Welcome from Principal Nkauj Nou Vang-Vue

Greetings! Nyob zoo!

The Lake View Community School staff extends a warm welcome to all our families. My name is Nkauj Nou Vang-Vue (first name pronounced gau-nu) and I am the school principal. I go by Nou and students can call me Ms. Vang-Vue.

At Lake View, we "value our diverse community where students, families and staff have a voice. We work together to create a sense of belonging and meaningful learning opportunities for our scholars every day. We actively stand up for equity. Together, we are Lake View!” (Lake View Equity Vision, created 2020)

Lake View is a kindergarten through 5th grade school with a diverse multicultural student body. Our 270 students come from a variety of neighborhoods with about two-thirds walking to school. Our mission is to provide equitable opportunities for rigorous and engaging learning for every child. We believe that our students and families come with a wealth of knowledge that contributes to the diversity of our teaching and learning experience at Lake View.

We are a Community School! We partner with and build on the assets of the community to help serve the identified needs of scholars, families and the surrounding neighborhood through well integrated and coordinated strategic partnerships. In partnership with families and community organizations, we strive to provide services to meet the needs of our school community as well as contribute to its growth and strengthened practices.

We are also home to the only Hmong Bilingual Program in our school district and in the state of Wisconsin! Any child who identifies as Hmong or is a heritage Hmong speaker can opt into the bilingual program where they get the opportunity to be bilingual and biliterate in both English and Hmong! We have grown our program to serve students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.

We take learning outdoors! We believe that learning can happen anywhere and beyond the four walls of a traditional classroom. We are continually expanding our outdoor learning opportunities with the school garden, school forest and outdoor classrooms. Outdoor learning provides opportunities for students to explore, experience, and expand their learning through different modalities.

Meaningful learning is one of our priority areas. We will continue to focus on early literacy and teaching to the Common Core State Standards. We strive to embed and teach lessons that are culturally relevant and address social justice. Holistically, we will take the time to teach children the skill sets they need in order to be successful socially and emotionally at school.

On behalf of the Lake View staff and myself, welcome! Zoo siab txais tos! Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions, concerns, or would like to visit our school to learn more about our incredible school community. We are here to partner with you inservice of your child’s learning at school.

Together, We Are Lake View! Ua Ib Ke, Peb Yog Lake View!

In Partnership,

Nkauj Nou Vang-Vue
