The Victor Valley Union High School District is building the infrastructure to support the mental health and behavioral health needs for ALL students. We are doing that by providing staff with professional development, investing in an electronic health record, and continuing to partner with Effective School Solutions. In looking at overall discipline data, VVUHSD chose to focus its efforts on drug and substance abuse prevention and intervention at the middle school levels. ALL students within the District have access to Mental Health Clinicians on site that assist with individual counseling and group sessions pertaining to some of (but not limited to) the following topics:
Grief and loss
Anxiety
Depression
Decision Making
Conflict Resolution
Positive/Healthy Relationships
Anger Management
Suicide Prevention
Communication
Building Self-Esteem
We currently contract services through Effective School Solutions that specializes in mental health programs in schools. Effective School Solutions will specifically work with Lakeview Leadership Academy, Hook Junior High, and Larrea Middle School to help prevent and intervene in drug and substance use. Each site will have access to an on-site therapist who will host individual and group sessions with students who have used or been in possession of illegal substances. The therapists are also able to provide professional learning to site educators and informational meetings with parents/guardians/caretakers as it pertains to drug and substance abuse education.
Beginning January 2026, the Institute for Public Strategies - High Desert, will be providing drug and substance abuse use supports for our students at Adelanto High School, Silverado High School, Victor Valley High School, and Goodwill Education Center. Therapists will work with students individually and in group settings.
