GRANT OVERVIEW
The Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI) is part of the Master Plan for Kids' Mental Heath, a historical investment by the State of California that takes a "whole child" approach to address the factors that contribute to mental health and well-being of our children and youth. It is an opportunity for us to reimagine and transform the way California supports children, youth and families.
CYBHI is a collaborative effort involving multiple California state departments aimed at enhancing access to school-based mental and behavorial health services for students. This initiative allows school districts to receive reimbursement for various services, including screenings, assessments and ongoing mental health support provided to students. Children, youth, and families will not pay out-of-pocket expenses and there will not be any impact to their existing insurance plan nor deductibles.
STRATEGIC AREAS:
Workforce Training and Capacity (Create a larger, more representative workforce supporting the emotional, mental, and behavioral health of California's young people)
Behavioral Health Ecosystem Infrastructure (Develop and transform the infrastructure supporting the behavioral health of our children, youth, and families to ensure there is no wrong door for help)
Coverage (Create coverage pathways to access behavioral health services)
Public Awareness (Reduce stigma and raise awareness around emotional, mental, and behavioral health using culturally and linguistically appropriate campaigns)
PROVIDING HEALTH INSURANCE INFORMATION
Starting second semester of the 2025-26 school year, VVUHSD will begin collecting health insurance or Medi-Cal information. We understand this may cause concern and you may have questions. This statewide law requires private insurance companies and Medi-Cal to reimburse school district for services provided to students who may need socio-emotional or mental health support. The reimbursements will assist our District with being able to continue supports and programs for students when the grant expires. You may be asked by your school site via ParentSquare to provide your health insurance information for your student. You also have access to provide your insurance information via the QR code on the flyers below.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ?
NO cost to our families
NO bills or copays
NO change to your insurance coverage/premiums
Our providers will bill the insurance company
All information is private and confidential
