Directed Reading Programs (DRPs) are mathematics mentorship programs, pairing undergraduate students with grad student mentors for a semester-long reading project. Typically run by graduate students with minimal faculty oversight, these allow undergrads the opportunity to learn mathematics outside of the classroom and graduate students the opportunity to mentor one-on-one.
(from DRP network )
Our DRP will consist of one-on-one meetings once per week between an undergraduate mentee and a graduate student mentor. Mentors will provide proposals, mentees will apply, and the the oversight committee will pair mentors and mentees. Meetings begin a few weeks into the semester, and continue until the end of the semester. At the end of the semester, mentees will give a 5-10 minute presentation on what they've learned to the rest of the people in the program.
Note that the DRP is independent of the Virginia Tech Math Department curriculum and does not confer academic credit.
All participants should adhere to the VT Principles of Community.
