The area of concern includes two sections of shoreline, a boardwalk, and the ODU parking lot.
The site visit took place on Jan 29-30 2021.
This 2-day visit included:
Project site visit and site survey on the first day,
Tour of existing projects on the second day.
The shade due to Rogers Hall building impacts growth of shoreline plants. Carefully decision-making on where to plant the vegetation will be important.
Flow from the outfall causes scour, resulting in wetland erosion.
Sea-level rise causes plants in the lower marsh to drown
The outfall has a high energy flow that contributes most of the erosive energy of the site. Outfall flow may combine with wind-driven waves from the bay to form eddies.
The boardwalk condition is decent, which is better than we expect.
The piles are intact, with only some potential damage to some of the boards.
