Sound - The Spoon Gong Experiment
Students work in pairs or small groups to complete the experiment, walking through each step of the scientific method. This activity incorporates critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. The lesson may also be extended to include citizenship through a discussion of the experiences of deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals and how they may be assisted by technology.
Use of the pipe chimes incorporates music and encourages creativity.

Kit - Mecklenburg 4-H has a Light kit that includes the book Pigaroons and materials for small groups to complete reflection and refraction activities and to construct a prism (containers for water, mirrors, magnifying lenses, flashlights). The kit also includes one prism and a set of lenses.

The salinity experiment is conducted in small groups. Students must use communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills to complete the activity. Citizenship is incorporated as students are required to return the kit in clean and complete condition at the end of the activity.
