Extension

Part of Virginia Tech’s mission as a land-grant university is to provide educational outreach to the people of Virginia, so that the resources and expertise within the University can be used to improve economic, environmental, and social well-being. As part of Virginia Cooperative Extension, we have a unique opportunity to increase the impact of our research by working with agricultural producers, state and local agencies, and community members.

The goal of our extension work is translate research advances into practical information and impact to make Virginia's farms, waters, and communities more sustainable and climate resilient.  Specifically, our extension programming aims to 1) support agricultural producers in identifying, developing, and managing irrigation systems to better manage climate variability and 2) support water managers, planners, and users in assessing and addressing climate change risks over the shortr and long term. By developing a coordinated program of research and extension focused on these two goals, we provide actionable insights and guidance to make Virginia a leader in sustainable water management in humid climates.
