Individualized Cybersecurity Research Mentoring (iMentor) Workshop

Call for Student Mentees

BENEFITS OF STUDENT MENTEES:

Selected mentees will receive free ACM CCS registrations and participate in the fun iMentor workshop activities from November 9th to November 12th. Student mentees will be paired with a mentor throughout the conference with several informal social opportunities to discuss cybersecurity research topics. iMentor cohorts will also have opportunities to get to know each other and network. Please see the workshop Program page for details. We plan to admit around 40 iMentor students this year. Please submit your application as soon as possible and join the 2020 iMentor cohort! Please read the instructions carefully before you submit.


STUDENT MENTEE APPLICATION:

An applicant needs to meet the following to be eligible:

  • Graduate students in their 1st-, 2nd-, 3rd-, or 4th-year of study (working towards Ph.D. or thesis-based Master degrees) currently enrolled in a university (anywhere around the world*) with a good standing (You do not need to be from a US institution.);

  • Having research interests on cybersecurity, privacy, and cryptography (broadly defined);

  • From underrepresented groups, such as women, technologically underserved minorities or regions, and persons with disabilities. Male students from underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.


The applicant should submit the following items as soon as possible.

  • CV,

  • A statement about why the student wants to attend the iMentor workshop and ACM CCS Conference,

  • A support letter from a professor (preferably the student's advisor) stating the academic standing of the student.

Applicants will be required to check a box during submission indicating the student will abide by the iMentor Code of Conduct.


The selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Eligibility

  • Quality of the personal statement

  • Research potentials

  • The potential impact of attending CCS on the student

APPLICATION DEADLINE:

Deadline of the application is October 5th, 2020 (Monday). Rolling review with no submission deadline, but please submit ASAP due to the limited spots. We have received enough submissions. Thus, the iMentor submission site will be closed by the end of October 18, 2020.

The review will begin after this date. We have limited mentee spots. We strongly encourage students to submit their complete application by this deadline. The selection will give higher priorities to applications that are received before the deadline.


*NSF funding can only be used to cover eligible students from US universities. Students from international universities will be covered using non-NSF funding.
