The current owner of the Sphere is Sphere Entertainment Co., a company led by its executive chairman and CEO, James L. Dolan (Sphere Entertainment Co., 2024). Prior to this, the Sphere was under the ownership of James L. Dolan as part of Madison Square Garden (MSG), hence the widely adopted name "MSG Sphere". In April 2023, MSG underwent a structural separation, resulting in the creation of the two distinct entities: Sphere Entertainment Co. and Apollo Global Management.
The design aspects of the project were led by Populous Group, a firm known for its extensive experience in large-scale, heavy construction projects, including the design of entertainment facilities.
The design team at Populous was comprised of a group of 14, bringing a comprehensive blend of expertise across architecture, interior design, design quality, and project management. At the core of their team were talented architects: Senior Architects Jim Jamis, Bradd Crowley, and Brent Roberts (Populous, 2024).
Thanks to the talented professionals from Populous and the MSG group, the Sphere was brought to life, resulting in the impressive addition to the Las Vegas skyline. Since its unveiling, the marvel has continued to captivate onlookers and generate buzz across social media.
At the outset of the project, MSG Co. appointed AECOM as the lead general contractor. However, in 2020, MSG Co. assumed this role themselves and continued to lead the project through its completion in 2023. Although AECOM was no longer the lead contractor, they remained involved in the project as a sub-contractor, with MSG ( a.k.a Sphere Entertainment Co.) overseeing the 30 employees retained by AECOM on the sphere project.
