3 Easy Steps to Sign a Child up for 4-H Camp TO BE COMPLETED IN THIS ORDER
Enroll your child in 4-H Online. This enrollment ensures that we have your child's full health history information and Code of Conduct. Make sure to enroll your child in the 4-H Camp unit (Greensville). For those 4-Hers already enrolled in 4-H Online, please log back into your account and add "4-H Jr. Summer Camp" as a club under the Greensville/Emporia unit. Email Hannah at hdp2513@vt.edu once this is completed to confirm your enrollment in summer camp.
Pay for camp. Within 72 hours you will receive an email as to make payment. Payment needs to be made within 72 hours. If payment is not made within that time frame, the camp spot will be forfeited. A deposit of $65 is due with your registration and the remainder of the camp fee must be paid by June 30th. You may also pay the full camp fee at time of registration. The camp fee can be paid by cash, check, money order or card. More information about payment options can be found on the Payment Page.
Waivers/Forms - You will receive paper forms (Cell/Equine Waiver, Dietary Needs Request, Bus Pick-Up Forms) to sign and they will need to be turned in by June 30th.
Last payment is due June 30, 2026.
Class Registration - After registration and payment, you will receive an email from Hannah (hdp2513@vt.edu) with a link to sign-up for camp classes. This email will be sent in late June or early July. Notifications and reminders will be sent.
You are NOT registered for camp until you receive a confirmation email from 4-H Online and/or Hannah Wilson (hdp2513@vt.edu). Please contact the Greensville/Emporia Extension Office at 434-348-4223 if you are unsure of your registration status.

4-H Junior Camp is co-ed and campers must be ages 9-13 as of 9/30/2026*. Greensville County and City of Emporia residents have priority. However, if space is available, we welcome outside youth to attend camp with us.
Registration will take place online.
*The best way to determine age eligibility is to ask, "How old will my child be on 09/30/2026?" If the answer is 9, 10, 11, 12, or 13 then they are age eligible for camp. Youth that are 13 years old on January 1, 2026, but will be turning 14 prior to camp, are still considered eligible to attend camp as a camper.
Teens 14+ should apply to be a Counselor in Training or Counselor. Contact Hannah Wilson at hdp2513@vt.edu for more information on the application process. This application is typically due in February.

Camper Cost: $400 starting May 1, 2026
Non-Refundable Deposit to Reserve Camp Spot: $65 (deducted from total cost)
This camper fee includes meals and lodging for five days and four nights, transportation to/from camp, a camp t-shirt, class supplies, and evening program supplies. A deposit of $65 is due with your registration and the remainder of the camp fee must be paid by June 30th. The camp fee can be paid by cash, check, money order, or credit card (online only). Partial camp scholarships are available for those with a financial need. Scholarships are awarded based on need and are first come, first served. You must complete 4-H online enrollment registering your child for camp, and pay the camp deposit before applying for a camp scholarship.
*If you are a family with significant financial need and would like your child to attend camp but are unable to pay the deposit, please contact Hannah directly at 434-348-4223 or hdp2513@vt.edu to discuss available support options.
What do campers do at 4-H Camp?
What do campers do at 4-H Camp?
Campers get to select 3 classes that they participate in Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Classes focus on hands-on, experiential learning that build life skills. Registration for camp classes will take place online the end of June or first week of July (prior to camp). More information will be shared on how to select camp classes.
There is free swim and recreation time each day, as well as evening programs and campfire. Evening programs include a talent show, carnival, scavenger hunt, pool party, and more!
Campers compete during the week on teams for the Spirit Stick. Spirit Awards are given for enthusiasm, participation, and demonstrations of good character!
No electronics are allowed at camp - including phones! This is a great way for youth to disconnect from social media and games to practice social skills, explore the outdoors, and learn important life skills.

Each year we recruit teen volunteers 14 and up to serve as counselors for our camp. These teens, as well as our adult volunteers, 4-H Extension Staff, and 4-H Center Staff, complete a training series and are tested on core concepts before attending camp. Our staff is trained according to the American Camp Association requirements and you can rest assured that your child will have a safe, enjoyable experience at 4-H Camp!

Virginia’s 4-H camping program is recognized throughout the nation as a leader in 4-H camping programs. Each of the six Virginia 4-H Educational Centers has achieved and maintains American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation.
Parents and guardians should always look for the ACA seal when selecting a camp for their child to attend. Only about 25 percent of all camps in the nation are accredited by the ACA, the recognized camp accreditation organization in the United States. Having ACA accreditation means that the camp meets the highest standards for safety, food service and staffing, health care, and program quality.
Each 4-H Educational Center maintains these standards annually. Additionally, all 300 standards are reviewed every three years for reaccreditation. Each 4-H center program staff person, as well as the adult and teen 4-H volunteers who participate in camp, are carefully selected and trained prior to the camping event.

Can I request a roommate for my camper?
Can I request a roommate for my camper?
Yes, you can request a roommate. HOWEVER, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be honored. We will try our best to honor all reasonable requests as we are able. Campers are grouped in rooms by age. Campers truly do not spend much time in their rooms and when they do it is to sleep!
First Time Campers: We understand that a first time camper may be wary and feel more comfortable knowing someone in their room. We will prioritize roommate requests for our first time campers to make sure they feel comfortable. As they return, our hope is to help them create new connections with youth they may not otherwise spend time with.

Can I call to speak to my camper each day?
No. If you have an emergency at home, we will certainly get you in touch; however, there is not enough time in the day to accommodate phone calls for 200 people. Additionally, our goal is youth development and part of our objective is to teach independent living skills and connect youth with other caring adults outside of their families. It is also a distraction and takes away from their experience. A child is actually MORE likely to experience homesickness when connecting with a parent/guardian during the week. If your child is seriously injured, seriously homesick, or in need of something, we will contact you!

Yes! We provide bus transportation to and from camp that will meet at the Greensville/Emporia Extension Office.

Are phones (or other electronics) allowed?
NO. No electronics of any kind are allowed - no phones, no i-pads, no apple watches, no laptops, etc. NO ELECTRONICS OF ANY KIND. Phones (and other electronics) are a major distraction and can pose a serious safety risk. This is not only our rule, it is a statewide 4-H camping policy.

What if I live in another locality and not Greensville/Emporia?
Nearly every county and city in Virginia has a 4-H program, and we recommend registering for the locality that you live in. We give preference to Greensville County and City of Emporia residents and active club members throughout the month of March. After that time, if spots are available, we welcome outside youth to attend.

Who else camps with Greensville/Emporia during our camp week?
Greensville/Emporia will be camping with Surry County in 2026. This means that youth that attend 4-H Jr. Summer Camp with our camp week will be from Greensville County, the City of Emporia, and Surry County. Greensville/Emporia typically brings approximately 100 campers and teens combined to camp.
