When substituting books for Thinking Reading, it is critical to consider the characteristics provided by the authors of Fusion Reading for the ideal novels. The novels on the recommended list have been carefully chosen to engage struggling adolescent readers and motivate them to want to read.

Also, you may consider the options below for a class-wide book study, if that is needed for your students. When choosing a book for independent reading, be sure to check the reading level for the student with the lowest reading level and match the book to that Lexile level (or whatever reading leveling system you use.)
