4-H Camp Classes
Air Rifle:
After a few days of instruction, you might be 4-H camp's next "Top Shot." Learn sportsmanship as you compete with your fellow classmates. This class is run under the instruction of a trained, qualified instructor while focusing on SAFETY, shooting and marksmanship skills.
Archery:
What do fletching, quivers and Robin Hood all have in common? Find our when you learn basic archery skills in this class taught by a trained instructor. Class will have a strong emphasis on SAFETY and mastery.
Bracelet Making: Learn the basics of bracelet making while letting your creative side come alive. If you already have the basics down, then join the fun in learning advanced options.
Campfire Cooking:
Going on a day hike or an overnight campout? Campers will learn how to make simple, tasty and fun foods that will keep them going all day. Learn how to cook over a campfire so you can share your new favorites with friends and family on your next camping trip. *Closed-toe shoes required.
Canoeing:
A paddle, a life jacket and a canoe - it doesn't get much better than this! Come to a class prepared to learn some basic canoeing strokes, safety and have fun as you navigate the wild, wonderful waters of Lake Culpeper! If you are lucky you might even get to go for a dip if you choose to tip your canoe on the last day.
Cast Iron Cooking:
Make meals and snacks over an open fire in this delicious, hands on class. Participants will learn various cooking methods and of course get to eat the products of their hard work!
Creeks and Critters:
Take this class if you are interested in exploration, adventure, discovery, and “wow” moments. With nature as our classroom, we will spend time investigating Happy Creek, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, building habitats for wildlife, exploring the diversity of life that Lake Culpeper supports, and more!
Fishing:
Campers will learn to bait the hook and cast into Lake Culpeper in this catch and release program. The class will incorporate Virginia Conservation information while enjoying the sport of freshwater fishing.
Fitness Fun:
Strengthen your head, heart, hands, and health through fitness. Have a ball as you take part in some of the most popular camp games and activities , including Yoga, Gau-Gau, pickle-ball, four square, basketball, volleyball, soccer, kickball, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, flag football, and more! Perfect for those who want to learn the basics and rules of the games or just get active. Each cluster will decide what activities they’re most interested in.
Fun with Colors:
Explore various art forms in a creative and colorful way! Experiment with tie-dye, canvas painting, and various other arts and crafts.
High Challenge Course:
Having accomplished the Low Challenge Course, adventurers can advance their skills through the high ropes challenges. With proper safety equipment and under the watchful eye of trained facilitators, adventurers can advance their skills through scaling the climbing wall and taking a “leap of faith” on our newest high element. Make no mistake, these elements require as much-if not more teamwork as the low challenge course. This is a two-period class and is only offered once (periods 2 and 3 combined). You must be 12 years old or older to register for this class.
Leadership Development (CIT):
All CIT's will be assigned to this class. Leadership is more than a title; do you have what it takes? Have fun practicing communication, cooperation and leadership in 4-H style. There will be team challenges, problems to solve and plenty of chances for you to influence others.
Line Dancing:
Let’s get on the dance floor and have some fun! Campers will learn all kinds of moves from the Cha-Cha Slide to the Virginia reel. Show off your moves at the camp dance or on the pool deck and teach your friends! Through the art of dance and performing techniques, campers’ confidence will soar!
Low Ropes Teambuilding:
Learn to communicate, test your skills and work together as you tackle elements on our low challenge course. Just don’t get stuck in the “spider web”! *
Music
Love listening to music and wish you could make your own? Are singing camp songs your favorite part of campfire? Then this is the class for you! Learn the fundamentals of music and finally master every word to those tricky campfire songs. Craft your own instruments, jam with friends, and perform in the Talent Show in this beginner-friendly music class!
Newspaper/Photography
Photography- Campers will learn basic photography techniques to take visually pleasing
photos. They will learn how to crop and edit the photos they take and use
them for a multimedia presentation that will be featured at the camp closing ceremony!
Newspaper- READ ALL ABOUT IT! Campers will get the opportunity to write and publish our camp newspaper! Each day campers will report on classes and activities. Interview campers, teens, staff, and adults, and create interesting columns for the entire camp population to enjoy.
Outdoor Living Skills:
Learn all about the skills it takes to thrive and survive in the outdoors. Pitching tents, hiking and fire building are all things you will tackle in the class. Oh, yeah and that exist in the night sky!
Paper Crafts as Service Projects:
What do origami and Christmas cards have in common? This class will teach you the Japanese art of paper folding, and you will also be designing and making Christmas cards, using origami, recycled cards and your creativity. The service project is that your Christmas cards will be sent to deployed members of our military next Christmas. You will also be able to take some of your creations home after camp. Come fold, cut, glue and draw with us!
Sports:
Learn some skills and have some fun with a new sport each day. Play basketball, soccer, gaga ball etc. down on the rec field.
Swimming (beginner):
For campers with little to no swimming experience or who are not comfortable in depths over 4 feet, this class will help you learn to have fun in the water. Covers basic strokes, learning to swim under water, floating and treading water.
Swimming (intermediate):
For campers who can swim unaided across the pool and feel comfortable in depths over 4 feet. This class covers more advanced
strokes, uses the diving board and other fun water activities.
Wacky Science: Science can be weird…campers will investigate and experiment with everyday items that produce wacky results
