Using a model of the upper airway, doctoral student Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Akash, left, and assistant professor Dr. Saikat Basu of South Dakota State University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering discuss adjustments to a computational aerosol transport model of how the novel coronavirus may spread from the nasopharynx into the lungs via aspiration of virus-laden droplets or boluses.
