The FFA organization significantly supports agricultural education by offering practical experiences that reinforce classroom learning and facilitating hands-on application through activities like supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs) and career development events (CDEs). It bridges coursework with real-world experiences, empowering students to deepen their understanding of agricultural concepts while providing resources, mentorship, and networking crucial for their professional and personal growth. 

Eligibility

• Student must be currently enrolled in an agricultural education course at the middle or high school level in Virginia

Submission Qualifications

• 250-500 word essay responding to the 2025 prompt listed below

• Letter of recommendation from the student's agricultural educator or FFA advisor, submitted to alphalambda.ata@gmail.com

  • 2025 Prompt: "The FFA jacket symbolizes belonging, hard work, and the pursuit of excellence in agriculture. Write an essay describing how being part of FFA would help you achieve your personal goals and make a positive impact on your community. Include specific ways you would embody the FFA motto, 'Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve,' as a member."

• Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 4th at 11:59 pm.

Prize

• The most inspiring and heartfelt entry will win an FFA jacket, symbolizing your dedication to the future of agriculture and leadership. 

• The essay contest winners will be contacted via email by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11th, with a request for shipping information.

• The winners' names will not be shared publicly to protect the privacy of students. However, students or families are welcome to share their accomplishments and tag Alpha Tau Alpha—Alpha Lambda on social media if they wish. We are happy to share in the celebration, but again, out of respect for the privacy of minors, we will not personally announce the contest winner.
