ABOUT

History of ATA @ VT

The organization, now known as ATA at VT, has changed forms many times. In the late 1960s, the club primarily functioned under "The Ag Ed Society" or AES for short. Once the National FFA Organization began supporting collegiate FFA chapters, the club shortly operated as an ATA chapter, collegiate FFA chapter, and Ag Ed Society. As of recently, the National FFA Organization no longer offers support for college FFA chapters. As a collective, members voted to officially adopt the Alpha Tau Alpha namesake.

While our name has changed, our passion for agricultural education and extension has remained strong. We look forward to continuing to better the profession and supporting Virginia Agriculture.

National Alpha Tau Alpha Organization

"Alpha Tau Alpha is a National Professional Honorary Agricultural Education Organization that is vital in preparing those who have chosen a major in agricultural education or extension education.

The purpose of this organization, as implied in the Preamble, is to promote the highest standards of agricultural education and a more intimate acquaintance and closer relationship with individuals who have chosen a major in agricultural education or extension education. By studying the life, preparation, and personality of great educators, by a better understanding of various aspects of the plentiful vocations in agriculture, and the energy of the people engaged therein, we aspire to become such agricultural educators as shall wisely and sufficiently lead those who have chosen the vocation of agriculture, into fuller lives of success and happiness.

We seek to find and enjoy the fellowship of individuals of high scholarship, true teaching ideals, and sincere desire to serve in agricultural leadership."
