ABOUT
The 2026 AfricaArray meeting was held at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, from 12–13 January 2026, followed by a hands-on Carpentries Workshop on 14 January.
AfricaArray has long been dedicated to strengthening geosciences across Africa by building capacity, fostering networks, and advancing research for the continent’s future. After a period of silence, this workshop marks an important step in revitalizing AfricaArray and charting a sustainable path forward - both for our scientific community and for Africa’s role in the green economy.
This year’s workshop theme, “Bridging Tectonics and Societal Needs,” highlights the vital role geoscience plays in addressing Africa’s sustainable future as we transition to a green economy. Together, we will explore ways to connect fundamental Earth processes with the needs of society, while strengthening collaboration across the continent.
Funding for this meeting is from the US National Science Foundation and the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.
