Teen Counselors and CITs are expected to be dependable, have good judgment, be
energetic and get along well with others. Teen Counselors and CITs are responsible for the
safety and well-being of campers in their assigned cabins and activity areas. This position is not to be taken lightly. The 4-H state office, your 4-H Extension Agent, and the family of the
campers are counting on you to serve as a positive role model to our youth.
In order to be a Teen Counselor or CIT, you must follow the following procedures:
❖ Complete the application form by Jan 31st, 2025. Applications received after this date will be considered on an as needed basis.
❖ Interview for the Counselor/CIT position. The interviews will be conducted virtually with
a panel consisting of all 4-H Agents in our camping cluster. Once your
application/references have been received, an interview date will be set up with you.
Counselor interviews are set for the week of March 3rd. CIT interviews are the week of
March 17th. Counselors are expected to dress and present themselves in a professional manner for the interview.
❖ Register for camp on 4-H Online. Ask your Extension Agent for the specific date the registration needs to be completed(Information will be sent out after interviews)
❖ Attend all camp trainings (dates below) This is mandatory and no trainings can be
missed. Failure to attend all trainings will result in dismissal as a counselor. Please take
advantage of knowing the dates now to plan accordingly. In the event of an emergency
please reach out to your 4-H Agent when possible. Forgetting to request off from work is
not an emergency.
Camp Training Dates
o April 11th-12th TALT Airfield 4-H Center: $50
(this training is required this year and will cover most of what is needed. The cost will be released by Airfield at a later date)
o April ?th 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Zoom
o ? 22nd 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Portsmouth Office (lunch provided)
o May 8th 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Zoom
o June 14th 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Surry Office (lunch provided)
