The UCO team are focused not just on getting students into university, but on helping them develop skills that will enable them to be successful at university. During Core and lunchtime workshops we focus on key skill development, such as the ability to write a CV and interview skills. In one to one interview we will also be exploring and reflecting on students soft skill development throughout their IBDP years.
In the first part of term 2 each year we give a number of workshops for year 11 students in Core and at lunchtimes. The focus of these is on using the Unifrog and other research tools to help students and families make an informed choice about their university application shortlists. We also give country specific presentations for a number of the popular destinations for VSA students.
To help Year 11 prepare for a successful start to Year 12, there is a significant emphasis placed on preparing to make applications and being ready from the start of term 1. The UCO supports students throughout this process through individual meetings, lessons during Core as well as a series of workshop on matters such as writing a personal statement and writing for US applications. Other workshops may be university or subject specific, such as for those considering medicine, Oxbridge, or art & design courses.
In addition to workshops for students, the UCO runs workshops for parents on how the application process works, how to support their student through the process.
