Instagram STEM Competition (No longer available)
Summer, 2023
Our Hub is hosting our first ever Instagram STEM Competition for middle and high school students! 7th-12th grade students can create and submit an Instagram reel showcasing their STEM projects, activities, or everyday STEM happenings. Winners will receive cash prizes! Enter here.
Kids U Hands-On STEM Camp (No longer available)
June 12-16, 2023
East TN STEM Hub assistant director, Nick Kim, will be leading two week-long camps this summer. The UT KidsU STEM Camp is for rising 6th-8th graders, and will involve students participating in various STEM challenges and activities, from building Chem-E-Cars to talking about environmental issues. High School STEM Camp (No longer available)
June 26-30, 2023
The High School STEM Camp will provide rising 9th-12th grade students with more challenging hands-on STEM experiences. Contact Dr. Kim at nkim2@utk.edu.
STEM Micro-Credentials (No longer available)
Dr. Kim will also be leading asynchronous STEM Micro-Credentials sessions exploring 4 topics: Design Thinking with a Tennessee Twist, Computational Thinking, STEM Perspectives, and Engineering Education. More details coming soon! Contact Dr. Kim at nkim2@utk.edu for more information.
STEM Educational Leadership Certificate Training (No longer available)
Fall, 2023
Beginning this fall, the Hub will be offering a certification opportunity for teachers interested in gaining STEM educational leadership experience. Teachers will receive a $500 stipend. More info to come! If interested, please email us at easttnstemhub@gmail.com.

MEDU 530 and 523 students with Dr. Rebecca Layton facilitated Family Stem Night at Northview Elementary in March and Oak Ridge Preschool in April! Every student was sent home with a Stem KIT including materials for each of the breakout room activities. Special thanks to Battelle & the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network for funding the kits!

Big Orange STEM Saturday (BOSS)

Over 100 high school students attended the BOSS event and engaged in a problem solving activity about developing a school reopening plan in light of data. Many contributed to this event including Lynn Hodge, Nick Kim, Rebecca Layton, Amir Sadovnik, Thura Mack, VolsTeach students and Upward Bound!

Expanding Your Horizon STEM Activity Day for Middle School Girls

The National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis is hosting Expanding Your Horizons STEM Activity Day for Middle School Girls from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm on November 9, 2019. This Activity Day will consist of hands-on STEM activities led by women faculty and staff from the University of Tennessee from Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Microbiology, and Mathematics.
