I strive to do three things in my classroom: help students develop intellectual virtues, help students develop tangible academic skills, and help students recognize the importance (and fun!) of engaging with philosophical ideas.
To accomplish these tasks, I strive to make my classroom's topics as relevant to students' everyday lives as possible. I often discuss and poll undergraduates about the topics that they are interested in to discover what they would want to discuss deeper.
To combat ChatGPT use, and to show students that creating and discussing philosophy can be fun, I often try to employ non-traditional assessments in my courses. For instance, my students are often tasked with producing podcast episodes, making "short form" content (e.g., TikTok videos), or participating in ethics bowl debates that engage with course content.
