Community Engagement

The Waterbury Town Plan update has been guided by an extensive public engagement process designed to ensure the plan reflects the community's priorities and aspirations for the future.

Engagement Timeline

• Town Meeting Day 2025 – Voters approved funding for the Town Plan update and the Town contracted with SE Group to assist the Planning Commission with the planning process. Planning Commission members spoke directly with residents to share information and seek input.

• Community Visioning Sessions – Four public visioning sessions invited residents to identify Waterbury's strengths, challenges, and opportunities. Feedback from these sessions helped establish the foundation for the Town Plan's goals and priorities; a summary of this feedback can be found here. 

• Community Survey – More than 400 residents completed the Town Plan Survey, providing valuable input on topics including housing, transportation, natural resources, recreation, economic development, and community character.

• Planning Commission Workshops (Fall) – Following the visioning process and survey, the Planning Commission held a series of public meetings to review community feedback and discuss draft goals and strategies for each chapter of the plan. Representatives from local entities that work within each area were invited to provide input.

Regular biweekly Planning Commission meetings also provided opportunities for public comment and discussion throughout the drafting process; meeting details can be found here. The Planning Commission, with assistance from SE Group, used the community feedback collected throughout the process to prepare the draft Town Plan, which will be reviewed through additional public hearings before adoption.

Residents have been encouraged to participate throughout the process by attending Planning Commission meetings, reviewing draft materials, and sharing feedback as the plan evolves.
