Waterbury's 2026 Town Plan Update
planWTB is a community planning process designed to help Waterbury residents
and stakeholders choose the future they want for the community.
Led by the Waterbury Planning Commission, the process will allow us to create a
community vision for the future and map out an action plan to make it happen.
Thank you for your interest. If you'd like to get updates on the plan please check back here or sign up here to receive email updates.
GET INVOLVED
The Planning Commission is currently in the process of engaging with other town commissions and organizations to collect their input for establishing Aspirations, Goals, and Strategies by chapter theme. We define these as follows:
Aspirations: Broad, long-term statements of desires and ambitions for the future - the 'why' behind more specific steps.
Goals: Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound steps taken to reach the goals.
Strategies: Specific steps that are measurable and detailed that can be taken to accomplish Aspirations and support achieving Goals
During our standard bi-monthly Planning Commission meetings we will be reviewing this feedback and collecting additional input from the public. We encourage anyone who is interested to attend these sessions from 6:00-7:45PM and discuss the aspiration, goals, and strategies for each chapter.
The tentative schedule is as follows:
August 25th: Local Economy, Facilities, Utilities, & Local Government
September 8th: Housing
September 22nd: Energy & Transportation
October 13th: Natural Resources & Flood Resilience
October 27th: Historic & Cultural Resources, & Recreation
November 10th: Land Use
Our meetings are typically held in the Steele Room or the SAL room at the Public Library - find details about upcoming meetings here.
The town of Waterbury has contracted with the SE Group to assist the Planning Commission in the development of the Town Plan. The funds to support this work we're approved at Town Meeting Day.
Thank to everyone who took part in our four Visioning Sessions. A summary of the feedback collected during these sessions is available here.
Thank to everyone who took the Town Plan Survey - we heard from over 400 residents! You can find the results here.

LEARN MORE
The Waterbury Town Plan serves as the framework for the future of Waterbury, especially with regard to the decisions that will guide growth and investments, as well as ensures the Town has a seat at the table during state regulatory proceedings.
It describes the town’s history, existing physical, social and economic conditions and establishes a vision for the future. This vision is supported by specific goals and action items.
The Waterbury Planning Commission is charged with updating the Town Plan every eight years; Waterbury's Town Plan was last updated in 2018. The revised plan will reflect the vision, goals, objectives, and actions that the town members have identified. The commission will be seeking input and participation from residents and organizations throughout 2024-2025. Our goal is to complete the Town Plan update by the end of 2025.
